Yamaha has announced Alexa support for its MusicCast multiroom ecosystem. The hi-fi giant will release a firmware update “in the fall of 2017” for more than 40 products in the the MusicCast lineup, including AV receivers, sound bars to streaming speakers, which will enable an Alexa skill for MusicCast commands.

Of course, you don’t have to wait until the autumn to use Amazon Echo with Yamaha hi-fi hardware. The Amazon Echo Dot offers Bluetooth, which means it can be paired with any MusicCast wireless speaker, sound bar or AV receiver. After that, the two devices can be connected by simply saying “Alexa, connect.” The output of the Echo Dot can then be played back through a single MusicCast device, or multiple devices linked using the MusicCast app.

And if you want to go old school, the Amazon Echo Dot also has a line output, which enables it to be connected like any other audio source to any AV hardware.
